Still deciding on a New Year’s Resolution? This year, consider paying better attention to your tires. Well-maintained tires will improve your fuel efficiency, greatly lower your risk of an accident, and can decrease the likelihood of costly repairs.
Here are some basic tire maintenance tips to get you started:
- Keep a log of how frequently you evaluate your tires, so you’ll never forget.
- Check tire pressure regularly with a quality tire gauge, and be sure to match the indicated number in your owner’s manual or on the side of your car door. Tire pressure is also essential for driving on wet, slick, or icy roads, so be sure not to skip this step!
- Evaluate your vehicle’s tread using the penny trick. It’s important that each of your tires have equal tread so that the car drives evenly.
- Lastly, be sure to keep a spare tire, jack, and lug wrench in the back of your vehicle, just in case you get a flat tire.
